For its spring, 2012 concert series, "Straw Into Gold," The Occidental Community Choir has woven together threads from a wide array of musical sources into a vibrant and eclectic program of choral works.
"Straw Into Gold" celebrates the power of the human spirit to transcend limitations and transform the humblest of raw materials into riches through the alchemy of imagination, collaboration, and creative expression. Forests spring to life in the desert, a spider explains the internet, Sam Cooke sings of love from beyond the grave, shrinking violets become exultant divas, and dark butterflies mark the blue footpath, among other wonders on display in this collection of outstanding OCC-original songs and arrangements, complemented by the works of renowned contemporary composers from West County and beyond.
