"Fishing"
words: Weymouth Kirkland & Doug Bowes
music: Doug Bowes
Away I wander river yonder
baited by the steelhead run.
Beneath the surface my real purpose
to catch sight of a deeper one
'mid nature's spawning splendor
Away I stumble nearly tumble
lured by beckoning charades
of people meeting, boats competing
my journey's fleeting vision fades
lost in the river's shimmering cascades.
I wonder as the stream is bending
is this world's seeking never ending?
I know I've found my pleasure ground
in moments rare at work or play
when my mind takes a holiday.
Away and gloomy I read Rumi.
His ecstatic verses fortify.
His vision bright, his homing scent
bring lightness back into my tent
here beneath the dark October sky.
Now knots unravel, home I travel
feeling comfort close at hand.
My heart expanding I am standing
in the place where I began,
in a stillness deep, primeval.
